Tide in Texas would like to thank Previous Alabama AD Bill Battle, current Alabama AD Greg Byrne, Coach Gene Stallings, current UA student Nicholas Golden for editing and everyone who helped with our tribute video to Lee Roy Jordan.
Thank you to our sponsors and everyone that played in the 2020 Crimson Classic benefiting the Lee Roy Jordan Scholarship Fund.
Our mission is to provide an opportunity for Alabama alumni, family, and friends to meet one another, to promote fellowship and build awareness of the University of Alabama throughout North Texas. We hope to accomplish this through our various meetings, social events and sports viewing parties. Please support your local University community by joining the Tide In Texas.
Message from the President
On behalf of the Tide in Texas Board, I want to thank all of our members, friends and supporters for their continued support of Tide in Texas during these unique times. Thanks to your support, we have continued our activity in the community and promoting The University of Alabama.
When the pandemic first hit in March of this year, our members quickly jumped into action, and due to many generous donations, both monetary and volunteer hours, we provided hundreds of meals to local first responders and medical professionals. The University of Alabama National Alumni Association graciously recognized our efforts, featuring Tide in Texas in the fall edition of the NAA Magazine. We remain “Tide” together, continuing to host social events while following CDC and local/state government regulations. Our socially distanced watch parties are going strong, and our Crimson Classic recently raised over $4,000, benefiting the Lee Roy Jordan Endowed scholarship fund. (If you have not had a chance to watch the video tribute on our web page, we encourage you to do so. Gene Stallings, Greg Byrne, Bob Baumhower, Bill Battle, Dana Duckworth and others were gracious with their time and words.)
I am also pleased to announce the annual scholarship match from the NAA was 81%. This allowed us to officially endow the Les Yates Emerging Leader Endowed Scholarship and The David and Sharon Richardson Young Leader Scholarship, which we will award this spring.
We look forward to our Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger food drive and finishing out the year strong and socially distanced at our remaining watch parties and Christmas Party.
All of the success we continue to have in 2020 would not be possible without the dedication of our officers – past and present – our Parents Group, Young Alumni Group, Student Recruiters, and our amazing members and supporters – past and present.
I hope everyone stays safe as we move into the Holiday Season and to quote our gymnastics coach, Dana Duckworth, “Be safe, open heart, clean hands, and ROLL TIDE!!!”
President, Tide in Texas
